This rural 17th century listed barn is situated high in the Swiss Alps, adjacent to the owner’s chalet.
The barn is undergoing a conversion to become a classical music performance studio for private concerts. The 3500 square foot space includes a living room performance area, a dining room, kitchen and a mezzanine with seating for intimate gatherings.
The interior is designed using reclaimed steamed oak in the traditional Swiss vernacular. Honed local stone, historically used for the feeding troughs, is featured within the performance area round. A black iron mezzanine balustrade, along with a central chandelier made of alabaster and metal, displays castings of local foliage. Sconces light the strong interior geometry, and quotes from famous composers are chiseled into the dado dividing the two floors. To evaluate both the acoustics and theatre, heavy mohair drapery panels form the backdrop for large framed works of art.
